Summer Makeup Must-Haves

Summer holidays are pretty much what I live for! The sunshine, the pool, friends…..I never want to come home! I don’t often do this but I wanted to write a little post about my holiday to share a few holiday pictures and also to give you a sneaky peek of what I got up to.

holiday1 holiday2

I went to a place called Kas in in Turkey with my sister Holly and a few of our friends. It was the most beautiful fishing town and I just fell in love with how beautiful it was and how friendly everyone was. We ate so much of the local food and went out for the day on a boat which was just amazing.

holiday5 holiday8 holiday9

I wanted to share one of my outfits from an evening out whilst I was there. My outfit is from Pretty Little Thing. I’m really lazy when it comes to makeup and hair when I’m on holiday but I still like to look dressed up! For my hair I’ve used the Pantene Pro V UV Protection spray. It helps to protect my hair in the sunshine and makes it really easy to style as it softens the curls that I get when I’m swimming and my hair drys. So for makeup I’m using my Benefit Do The Hoola makeup kit. When I’m travelling I love finding collections of miniature products to take away and Benefit do this really well. You get a lipgloss, mascara, powdered bronzer, liquid bronzer and balm. Most of them are hero products, the only thing I don’t get on so well with is the liquid bronzer as it doesn’t blend well for me. Instead I put a layer of my Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturiser to give me a little bit of colour and coverage. And because holidays are all about the dewy glow, I’ve used my Max Factor Excess Shimmer eyeshadow in Copper. The staying power and pigmentation on this is incredible. I’m obsessed with the bronze one and this one is perfect for the summer months. Finally for my lips I’m wearing the Max Factor Colour Intensifying Balm in Refined Rose which has been my go-to summer lip product. It’s packed full of moisture and can either be used as a sheer balm, or built up to give you a really pigmented colour. I love it.

holiday3

I filmed a video whilst I was out there talking all about my pool-side essentials which is over on the Beauty Recommended channel. Everything from my favourite sunscreen for combination skin to a new compact product that I can’t live without. Don’t forget to subscribe here too so you don’t miss any of my other videos going up there. I’d love to see your holiday pictures too. Tag me on twitter and instragram so we can swap photos! Make it a Special Fathers Day

fathers6 fathers9

I’m writing this as I look out to the ocean today which is where I wanted to be on what will be quite a difficult day for lots of us tomorrow. As some of you know, I lost my Dad a year ago. I wanted to write this post because for many of you, Fathers Day is a chance to show your Dad just how much he means to you, and I wanted to just say a little reminder of how important that is.

My Dad was such a fun man to be around. He was loved by so many people, and Fathers Day was a day to tell him that. I wasn’t always the best with texting and calling him, and I know the moments he treasured most were when we were together as a family. Time is the biggest gift you can give someone, so if you can, make the time for your Dad tomorrow. However far away you are, however busy you might be, try your very hardest to give the gift of time to him. When they’re gone, those memories are what you hold onto, and it’s those memories that keep you smiling when you miss them.

father1 father2

I didn’t want this post to be a sad one so I wanted to come up with some gift ideas if you’re last minute shopping, and it’s also a great chance to do a few gift ideas for men if your looking for birthday presents through the year. So the first ones I want to talk about are some aftershaves. This was also a winner with my Dad, he loved it. So here are some of my favourites that I think they will love. Here’s a little fun fact for you, before I went to University I was selling perfume in a department store! I loved learning all about them. The first I’ve picked out is Boss Bottled Intense. At £45 it’s a slightly newer version of Boss Bottled which my Dad loved and I have to say is one of my favourite smells. It’s so manly and sophisticated with hints of wood, spices and orange blossom. I always remember people by what they smell like and this really is so nice.

father3 fathers4

If it’s someone slightly younger, Eau de Lacoste is brand new on the market and I think this is really gorgeous. It’s much lighter with hints of grapefruit and apple but still has a lot of masculine body to it with cypress wood. At £35, I think this is going to do really well, and I love the packaging. I’m actually giving one of these away to someone who comments below.

fathers5 fathers6

Next is something that I’ve talked about before. One of my favourite gifts to buy men is cufflinks. They are such a special and classic gift and my favourite ones I’ve ever found are from Rodology. These won’t arrive in time for tomorrow so you could order them as a late surprise or if you have a birthday coming up they would be perfect. I am in love with the quirkiness of them, they are such a talking point and great for Dads!

Next is something that you can do together. Not on the High Street is one of my favourite websites, have a look here and there are so many experience days for you to choose from like tea and chocolate making. My dad loved doing things like this. We used to take him flying and go karting and they are some of the best memories I have. Plus you can print it off and give it to him for tomorrow!

fathers7 father8

Finally, if you’re on a budget. Here is something you can do for free and it’s actually my favourite gift of them all. Get a jar, do a little bit of DIY on it to make it look pretty with a ribbon and a little note. Then fill it with little notes inside with fun things to do together. Then each month or each week however often you want to do it, your Dad can pick one from the jar and you can make fun new memories together. If you live a long way apart, choose things like a Skype call, or to send each other a letter through the post. Small things like that are so precious in life, so hold onto them.

So I want to wish you all the love in the world for tomorrow. If you’re with your Dad, cuddle him tightly. I’d give anything to do that tomorrow. If you’ve lost yours, try to find a quiet place tomorrow and think of all the amazing memories you have. I feel lucky to have had a Dad for 26 years, and that’s what I hold onto. All my love, Becky x

Benefit POREfessional License To Blot

benefit pore

I’ve struggled with oily/combination skin for as long as I can remember so anything that claims to get rid of shine I immediately have to try and test! The Benefit POREfessional license to blot sits alongside a few other products that have tried to tackle the good old problem of shiny skin!

benefit2

I’m already a huge fan of the Benefit POREfessional primer to smooth skin and keep shine away but I still need something after a few hours. Blot on the Spot is an instant oil-blotting stick that claims to keep shine away for 6 hours. I love the idea of this but am always skeptical of products like this so I was keeping everything crossed for this one. The application is really easy and I love the point on the product which makes it really easy to get down the side of the nose and under eyes which is where I always get shine! You just slide it across your face and then I blend.

benefit3

It’s quite thick and waxy but I’d expect that from something that was going to hold shine away. At first I wasn’t sure about the consistency but it felt quite soft when it went on and didn’t clog my pores up. It actually made my skin look smoother but you just need to get used to the waxy feel. In terms of shine, it instantly mattified my skin and kept it looking smooth for about 4 hours. I tend to prefer blotting papers for getting rid of shine which don’t tend to affect the makeup but as anti-shine products go, this is pretty damn good. Becky x

Olivia Palermo X Ciate London Collab

ciate 1 ciate3

Ciate has long been a favourite of mine when it comes to nails. Every time I see the little bows in store I can’t resist buying a new shade. So when I set my eyes on this new collaboration I was excited to try it.

ciate2 ciate4

Olivia Palermo has teamed up with Ciate to create a new Olivia Palermo X Ciate collection, and I have to say the result is beautiful. The colours are very safe, a red a coral and a nude. I tried ‘Hutch – My Go To Red’ and I had high hopes as the polish comes in at almost twice the price of the normal polishes at £17. So first impressions, the brush was beautiful and really made painting my nails easy. The polish itself was gorgeous and definitely looked and felt different to the usual formulation that I’m used to. It glides on and the pigmentation is so bold and plump. It’s formulated with something called Dual Polymer Mesh Lock technology. Although that doesn’t mean much to me, the finish of the polish does! It’s so much better than most polishes I own and looked so thick and glossy. It dried quite fast and after 4 days was still chip free.

ciate5

A little throw in here but I wanted to mention it. I’ve been so frustrated with bad nail files recently so I came across these Lottie Sundowner ones and wanted to mention them. They file really well and look super cute. Make sure you file your nails well before you paint them!

The price tag is so worth it, for a little bit more I’ve got a polish that looks stunning and won’t chip. Plus the bottle looks really cute on my dressing table! I’m excited to try the other shades and hope the formulas are the same! What do you think of the three shades? Becky x

Tarte Makeup Has Arrived in the UK!

My inner makeup geek is literally doing backflips right now with this set. It’s probably the most excited I’ve been in a long time about getting anything new! Tarte’s 6 piece Best Face Forward Make-Up Collection is here in the UK. Yes you heard me right, here in the UK!

tarte 1

It’s one of those USA brands that everyone talks about but we can’t get our hands on here in England….until now. You can now buy Tarte products on QVC and there are so many of their hero products and sets like this on sale. Whenever I’m over in the USA this is one of the first brands I stock up on because the products are so good. Everything in this set is a hero product, so it’s not surprising it’s selling out in a few of the shades already!

tarte mascara

tarte lips

First of all the bag itself is going to be my holiday makeup bag it’s just gorgeous. The Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara has been in my top 10 mascaras for a while now. It’s really good if you want statement lashes that you can build up to look really thick and black. The Amazonian clay eyeshadow palette is perfect for me because it’s all neutrals! The shadows are quite matte and pigmented which is good if you get oily eyelids like me! Then you’ve got the LipSurgence lip creme in honeysuckle pink. Again I like nudes and pinks so this is good for me. It’s really moisturising and smells so nice with the peppermint and jojoba oil. It does say it’s meant to stay all day but I always need a top up after a few hours, probably from drinking so much tea!

tarte brush tarte cc tarte powder

You also get the double-ended complexion brush which is exclusive to QVC so I was glad to get my hands on this. I’m obsessed with flat end brushes for buffing in concealer. The coloured clay bronzer blush in pink bronze is so pretty to have in a makeup collection. I’ve got really pale skin and it isn’t too dark on me so I’m excited to try and see the different ways I can use this. Finally you get the coloured clay cc primer. This divides people a little and I still can’t make my mind up about this! The stick is made up of light lavender and mint green colours along with the primer which is meant to help reduce redness and neutralise your skin. It’s really easy to apply and blends into one colour, so you could wear this on it’s own as a light foundation. The staying power on this is amazing and it makes my skin look so much smoother. The downsides are that it’s quite waxy so my skin doesn’t take too well to it, and my dry patches tend to look a little drier. That said, I still enjoy using it but just not everyday!

The set is £46.50 and I’ve seen it on sale previously for £38.40. You’re saving so much money, even if there is one product you’re not so keen on. So I’m going to be stocking up on these for presents for friends. Keep checking on QVC as they change their deals each day and the sets that go on there. You can see all the QVC products they’ve got here. I am so excited to see what pops up over the summer online, I had no idea you could buy online from QVC so I think I’ve found my new go-to online shop! So welcome to the UK Tarte, I hope you’re well stocked up for us British girls! Have you tried any Tarte makeup before? What’s your favourite? Becky x

Available for £46.60 on QVC here.

TUTORIAL: Festival Hairstyles

It’s that time of year again. The sun comes out and our instagram feed fills up with beautiful outfits and festival hairstyles. I was lucky enough to go to Coachella this year in America and got so much inspiration for summer hair so I wanted to write a post about it.

Coachella blog 1 coachella1 coachella3

I’ve always been a bit afraid of trying new hairstyles because I have tried to follow a few tutorials and they never end up looking as they should do! So I wanted to create 3 styles that are really easy to do, but still look really good! The first thing that you’ll need to do is make sure you wash your hair with a decent shampoo and conditioner that is going to keep your hair nice and clean for a few days and isn’t going to leave it too heavy to style. So I’d recommend using the Pantene Pro V Expert Collection Hydra Intensify Shampoo and Conditioner. I have really damaged, coloured hair so this little duo is amazing at making everything feel much better again! My hair felt so soft after using this but unlike some of the other collections I’ve used like this it didn’t make my hair feel heavy which makes it impossible to style!

coachella blog 2

coachella blog4

So onto the first look which is great if you have long hair. Scrape your hair to one side and make a really chunky plait whilst lifting it up. Flip the plait over one side and grip it in place. Then find a hair tie or wired band to lock it in place and finish your outfit.

coachella blog6

coachella blog5

Onto the second look which is great for all hair lengths and is probably one of my favourites. First of all you need to make sure the top of your hairs and the lengths are nice and smooth and are going to style well. I’ve picked the Pantene Pro V Expert Collection Velvet creme infusion which is one of my go-to styling products of the moment. It smooths everything down and gets rid of flyaway hairs but doesn’t leave my hair looking greasy. Once that’s applied, find a pretty hair band and place it over your head but don’t tuck it under your hair. Then taking sections of about 1 inch, twirl the hair round and tuck it through the band at the back. Repeat this all the way around your head until all the hair is up. This look needs a bit of maintenance as you go through the day in terms of putting a few bits back in if it falls out but it looks so beautiful!

coachella blog7

coachella blog3

Finally onto the third look which is really good for all hair lengths and is vintage inspired! Take a section of hair from the front of your head and use your fingers to create a roll of hair that finishes at the front of your face to one side. Pin it in place and then take some hairspray to set it. I’ve chosen my Nioxin 3D Styling NioSpray Strong Hold. I’ve raved about Nioxin treatments for years in terms of thickening and helping to grow my hair, so I was so excited when they announced they were bringing out a styling range. This hairspray thickens your hair so it looks full of volume, and it doesn’t feel sticky when you spray it in. I’m on my third can in just a few months! You can either leave the hair like this or find an accessory to place around your head or to the side. I’m obsessed with flowers for festivals so I’ve chosen these.

Hair is only one part of the look for a festival so make sure you check out my festival product essentials video over on the Beauty Recommended YouTube channel which talks through a few products that will make sure you’re looking good but aren’t having to pack your whole makeup collection! Make sure you subscribe here to the Beauty Recommended channel too so you don’t miss any of my videos! I can’t wait to see all your summer and festival photos too. Make sure you tag me on twitter and instagram and i’ll be retweeting anyone who recreates these hairstyles! Love Becky x

A Day In The Life of a YouTuber

It appears miracles can happen. Never ever did I think I would be able to leave the house and go a full day not only without topping up my powder, but without even putting much of it on in the first place. I have always suffered with shine, and as the day goes on my makeup slides off and it just seems to get worse. Garnier set me the challenge of putting their new Pure Active Matte Control to the test. It’s an anti-shine anti-blemish moisturiser that claims to be able to control shine for 8 hours non-stop. Being the cynic I am, I didn’t think that one product alone could do this. So I mixed things up a little, and filmed an entire day in my life showing every step of the day and my skin and makeup. I mean, if the shine was going to show, I wanted you there to be able to judge it for yourselves! I was a bit on the tough side too, I actually put it through its paces for about 10 hours.

garnier1

Here’s the product that’s about to shake things up in the moisturiser game. It’s all about shine control for combination to oily skin. First of all I love the texture, it’s a gel consistency but not as thick and waxy as some of my favourite primers like Benefits Porefessional or Becca which I know divide you when it comes to how they feel. Instead it feels like satin because it’s actually a gel. I literally couldn’t stop putting this on it made my skin feel so good and definitely looked a lot smoother. It smells nice, quite subtle, similar to other Garnier products if you’re familiar with those. That wasn’t the test for me though, as soft as it might be, I needed it to hold my makeup and stop any single bit of shine developing.

garnier2

I got ready with this as part of my morning routine, went to brunch in this, took the dogs for a walk in this, filmed under my lights with this and relaxed by the fire in the evening with this. 10 hours later and not one bit of grease or shine. I felt defeated, and I loved it. So much so that I raved about it in my monthly favourites and daily skincare and makeup routine. It contains mattifying Airlicium and Salicylic Acid which is the little miracle combination that explains the shine control.

One other thing for me that stood out was how hydrated my skin felt at the end of the day. Usually when I’m packing primer and powder on my face by the end of the day I have dry patches, hence why I seem to have such combination skin at the moment. This didn’t do that, so it’s a moisturiser and primer in one. And if you have combination or oily skin like I do, I would pretty much expect this will become your go-to product like it has mine! It’s £6.99 so being a 2 in 1 product, you are getting so much for your money. Sometimes when I find something for shine control it’s high end and expensive can make it more of a treat rather than a daily product. That’s why I really wanted to tell you about this in hope that it helps some of you who have the shine problem like I do!

Now my fear of leaving powder at home has changed into my fear of leaving this! But judge it for yourself – the camera can’t lie! Here’s a day in my life….product aside it’s a chance to be a little nosey and watch me filming behind the scenes and what I get up to in a typical day! Love Becky x

New Spring Skincare Routine

caudalie1

This weeks post is all about Spring skincare as I’ve been counting down the days for this warmer weather to finally arrive! One of the first things I do apart from changing my makeup, is to switch things up skincare wise. My skin is combination so I’m constantly battling with skin that can’t make its mind up, and I wanted to talk a little more about some of the products that have really helped.

For the past year Caudalie skincare has stolen my heart and I just can’t get enough of their products. I wrote a post last year all about why I love the range, and now there is a new launch that I wanted to talk about. The beauty elixir and vinosource range have been staples in my bathroom that I can’t live without, but I’m switching things up a little and trying out a gorgeous new selection of their products.

caudalie2

The Polyphenol C15 range is designed to protect the skin from free radicals that we face everyday and to treat and help prevent wrinkles. My life is constantly on the move, I’m travelling to London each week, driving everywhere and spend a lot of time in the city. I protect my skin against the sun but to be honest I’ve never done anything to protect against the city air and the environment! First of all I want to talk about the overnight detox oil which I was already using last year as part of my skincare routine. For me this is the hero product of the range, I apply it before I go to bed and leave it to work its magic. It has honestly made such a difference, my skin is so much softer but it doesn’t leave me with greasy skin as it’s a dry oil – I notice such a difference when I don’t use this. All the products have anti-oxidant grape seed in and this one has carrot oil and lavender which make it smell amazing.

caudalie3

Next up are the moisturisers. The Broad Spectrum SPF20 Anti-Wrinkle Protect Fluid and the New Broad Spectrum SPF20 Anti-Wrinkle Protect Cream. I use the the fluid as my day moisturiser and it’s replaced my much-loved Elemis pro-collagen cream doing exactly the same thing. It’s packed with vitamin C and makes my skin feel and look a lot plumper which I like, basically I look less tired!! The new cream is lovely too, same smell as the rest of the range but this is slightly richer. On days when my skin is dry in places or sometimes overnight as a mask I use this.

Finally to finish the collection is the Anti-Wrinkle Defence serum and Anti-Wrinkle Eye and Lip cream. When I have more time in the morning I love using the serum especially if I’m having a bad skin day. It really helps smooth things over a little. My mum is a big fan of the eye and lip cream as it really makes a difference for her with tightening the skin. I don’t need that yet but I’m sure i’m not far off!

I’m actually doing a really fun giveaway for you all to celebrate the Spring arriving! 10 anti-oxidant boxes are up for grabs packed full of deluxe samples of all the range for you to try. All you need to do it go on twitter and follow @caudalieUK and @talkbeckytalk and tweet us using #WinSkincare. Do the same on Instagram following @caudalie and @talkbeckytalk and leave a comment using #WinSkincare under one of their pictures.

caudalie1

Also, you can make your own fun film over on the Caudalie website here which I did too. It’s basically a story of your life, and when you create one you’re entered to win a box too!

My entire collection of Spring skincare products will be over on my channel tomorrow here. So make sure you don’t miss that either. I know skincare can be a big investment so it’s really important to try it and get it right! Caudalie is a brand I have come to trust and love, and I’m pretty tough on skincare products because I have such difficult skin and this one has fast become one of my favourites! What’s your staple skincare product? Have you tried any of the Caudalie range? Becky x

NEW Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40

foundation 1

Bobbi Brown has released the most gorgeous skin serum foundation and me along with some of you guys got to be a few of the first ones to get our hands on it. Make sure you read right until the end because I’m doing a really exciting giveaway for you all.

I’ve been a huge fan of Bobbi ever since I was growing up. I remember when I was little watching my mum use the beautiful black packaged products and saving up as soon as I was old enough to buy some of their makeup brushes. I’ve raved for the past few years about their hero corrector and shimmer block, so when I got the opportunity to meet some of you around the new launch I was so excited.

meetup

This was my makeup for my meetup in London last week and I want to talk about some of my favourite products from the range that they used. First of all my skin was prepped and primed. I have heard just about every blogger and beyond rave about Bobbi’s skincare, particularly the eye cream, so I was desperate to try it and see how it worked out for me and my combination skin!!

foundation3

First up the Intensive Skin Supplement which smells beautifully of grape and felt quite soft and smooth when it went on. The Hydrating Gel Cream has to be one of my favourite products. The tropical grass extract smell is amazing and it just felt so light when it went on, but still gave me the moisture I really need on the numerous dry patches I seem to be getting. I actually think the £38.50 price tag is pretty cheap compared to others on the market that are really similar. Finally, the hydrating eye cream that every raves about. It’s packed with aloe vera which I’ve always found works really well to get rid of any blemishes, and it absorbs really quickly so it doesn’t leave your concealer runny.

foundation 1

foudnation5

Onto makeup and my base was the new Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40. It’s designed to be a blend between a serum and foundation so you get all the benefits of a serum with things like lychee and mushroom extract but also get the coverage of a foundation. I was really impressed with how good it was at correcting my skin which has been blotchy and red recently. It’s a medium coverage which you can build up if you want and comes in 16 different shades. It’s designed for normal to dry skin and is so lovely and moisturising, so I added a powder to take any unwanted shine away. I’m so excited for you guys to try this, it’s exclusive to John Lewis nationwide but you can get it online from BobbiBrown.co.uk from 2nd April.

To finish the look we used the Bobbi Brown Corrector and Concealer to get rid of any dark circles and then give a flawless finish, these are my favourite products out of the whole collection I’ve used so many pots up over the last few years. The staying power is really good and they don’t crease up, I think it’s safe to say this is my favourite concealer I own. Then we used one of the new brightening bricks. They are a bronzer, highlighter and blusher in one and I think will probably sell just as fast as the original shimmer bricks that everyone loved. On my lips we chose the Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in pale pink which doubles up as a cream blush too. I think this might be a little too bight for me when it comes to using it as a blush as I stick to nudes but for the lips it was just perfect.

To finish on the eyes we used the Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in karat to prime the lids and give a really nice base, followed with a mix of their gorgeous eyeshadows. I’ve included ‘wheat’ and ‘grey’ in this post which can also double up as powders to fill in your brows.

So now to the exciting part! I’m going to be giving away one of the grey eye shadows and the gorgeous lip and cheek pot. All you have to do is comment below and tell me which product from the range is your favourite. It was so lovely to get to meet some of you, and I really hope i’ll be able to do it again soon and meet even more of you! Becky x
